Central Michigan balances rebounding from loss, firing up for WMU: ‘They are another really good team’
The Chippewas got their noses rubbed in it vs. Ohio and need to bounce back, all while getting dialed in for a rivalry game — but those goals aren't antithetical to one another.
Mt. Pleasant — It’s a balancing act for Central Michigan this week.
The Chippewas played a shambolic first half and got blown out by Ohio last Saturday, and need to have a bounce back performance regardless of the situation. But also in the balance is a chance to win a major rivalry game vs. Western Michigan and lift a trophy at home
“There's two teams with two different responses,” CMU safety Justin Taylor said. “The first team, which will respond in a way as such, negatively: They will look at last week's game, and they'll say, ‘Alright, well, we got Western, we're not favored.’ They're looking at all the things that are uncontrollable. You got the other team who's gonna get back up, get back on their feet, and hit the ground running, preparing, just going to war with each other, sharpening the iron in practice, and going out to the game expecting to win and trusting their preparation.
“I feel like we're the second team. We're gonna be the team that goes out and be prepared, sharpen our iron. We might lick our wounds right after the game, but that game is over with. Last week's result is not gonna be this week's result. And, I mean, as far as that goes, like, you gotta respond. You gotta find ways to win games. You gotta find ways to battle through adversity. And we're still battling.”
