CMU heeding Herb Deromedi’s advice, putting no ceiling on dominant run game: ‘Can always be better’
The Chippewas have been a dominant force on the ground in its last two games vs. G6 competition, and are wanting to keep pushing the envelope.
Mt. Pleasant — After delivering a second 300 yard rushing performance in three weeks, Central Michigan’s rushing offense has, undeniably, found its stride.
It’s built behind a veteran, experienced and well-coached offensive line with a cadre of capable runners, from quarterback Angel Flores to a bevy of dangerous runners — namely Vaughn Blue, Jayden Clerveaux and Brock Townsend — all wrapped up in a scheme that blends the best of service academy option, more traditional zone and power read looks, and plenty of spread and shotgun formations, with the ability to get snug formationally.
This run game has led the offensive charge in two wins vs. Group of 6 teams for CMU, Wyoming and now the conference opener vs. Akron, and is looking like an offensive stalwart to build their identity around.
“Honestly, for us, we believe that sky's the limit,” Center Losini Maka said on Tuesday prior to facing Akron.
