Eastern Michigan's had the answers to early-season injury woes
The Eagles have yet to play the same 22 starters on offense and defense in any game this season, but are 4-3 and atop the MAC regardless.
It’s the nature of the beast, dealing with injuries, though Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton could happily leave that aspect of football behind.
“I love this game, and I also hate it,” Creighton said on Monday when discussing EMU’s plethora of injuries. “I just love it a little bit more.”
Creighton has particularly good reason to be worn out on the physical toll football can take this year, as a bevy of injuries have kept his Eastern Michigan (4-3, 3-0 MAC) squad from playing the same 22 starters across offense and defense at any point this season. Seven games, seven different lineups, albeit sometimes with just a few changes. The offensive line and secondary have been especially tricky to navigate with myriad players missing time, with linebacker Barry Manning and wide out Nick Devereaux standing out as two-longer term injuries of note.
