As Central Michigan’s traveling party got settled Saturday night on its chartered JetBlue A321 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood international airport, the clock approaching midnight shortly after the Chippewas fell 52-3 to Miami (Fl.), an early scouting report on Akron, CMU’s next opponent, was in hand.
Head coach Matt Drinkall had the staff work extra and looking ahead during the Miami week of prep, getting an early scout on the Zips. Refocusing on Saturday night and early Sunday morning after the trip to face a team with national championship aspirations was going to be critical. Especially with league play beginning with a visit from Akron, a team CMU lost to last season.
