Central Michigan quarterback Angel Flores will be out for the rest of the season after undergoing ankle surgery this week, head coach Matt Drinkall said after CMU’s 28-27 loss to Miami (OH) on Friday.
Double C Sports first reported that Flores will miss the remainder of the season.
Flores reported to medical staff on Sunday that he felt something in his ankle, got an X-ray on Monday, final imaging Wednesday and had season-ending surgery on Thursday, according to Drinkall.
“And Wes Sohns, to his credit, and our medical staff's credit, he said, 'Boy, it doesn't look quite right,'” Drinkall said postgame in a recording shared by CMU athletics. So on Monday they sent him in for an X-ray and they called me and said, the X-ray, 'Hey, look, it looked kind of irregular. So we're going to send him in for imaging.' He ended up getting finalized imaging on Wednesday, found the break then did surgery on Thursday.”
Flores had led CMU to a 3-4 mark prior to missing Saturday’s game (he was likely going to be out with a concussion regardless.
Flores ends his season going 54-of-92 (58.7 percent) passing for 475 yards, two touchdowns and two picks, while carrying 128 times for 618 yards and four more touchdowns.
Jadyn Glasser got the start vs. Miami, and is in line to hold on to that role after going 18-of-31 for 221 yards and a touchdown.
Central Michigan next plays on Wednesday, Nov. 4, against Eastern Michigan at Ford Field.
