CMU QB Angel Flores in concussion protocol, status vs. Miami (OH) up in air
The Chippewas may be down a critical piece of the offense hosting Miami (OH) at Kelly/Shorts Stadium this Saturday.

Central Michigan starting quarterback Angel Flores is in the concussion protocol and his status for Saturday’s game vs. Miami (OH) is to be determined, head coach Matt Drinkall said on Tuesday.
If Flores can’t clear concussion protocol ahead of Saturday’s home game vs. the RedHawks, backup Jadyn Glasser would presumably get the start with Marcus Beamon available, too.
Both Glasser and Beamon have notable in-game experience for Central Michigan at quarterback, lending confidence to Drinkall if either has to make a start or play significantly on Saturday.
And Flores being the most experienced of the trio, with hundreds of banked reps from games, makes the coaching staff confident in his ability to miss a week of practice reps, get cleared, and still perform as necessary.
“At the beginning of the year, when you play multiple quarterbacks, and you're starting to figure out who it is, it's for this exact, literally, this exact situation,” Drinkall said on Tuesday. “Now we're not playing a guy — if we have to play a [different] guy — that has no game experience or anything like that.”
Glasser has played more than Beamon this season, appearing in six of CMU’s seven games, completing 55.8 percent of his passes on 43 attempts for 242 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. Glasser has 19 carries for 20 yards, with sacks especially hurting his total.
Flores missed a notable chunk of the tail end of the 2025 season, missing the final four games of the regular season with a lower body injury.
Flores left the late stages of Central Michigan’s 21-14 loss to Western Michigan on Saturday after withstanding a heavy blow to the head that resulted in a confirmed targeting ejection for Broncos safety Joey Pope.
That play, with 1:08 left in the fourth quarter, saw Flores churn for extra yards on a fourth down play, surging upfield with his linemen. As Flores got roped down by his ankles and fell forward between two blockers, Pope came down and delivered a hit where the crown of his helmet caught Flores squarely in the head, just above his own facemask.
Flores stayed down briefly, attended by trainers, before walking off the field cautiously. He didn’t return to the game as Jadyn Glasser subbed in and played out the remainder of the plays for the Chippewas.
The initial rapid diagnosis postgame was concussion-like symptoms, though Drinkall did not have a definitive answer. With Flores exhibiting symptoms of a concussion and so little time left, the CMU medical and coaching staff erred on the side of caution and shut him down for the remainder of the game.
When Flores left the game on Saturday, he had carried the ball 31 times for 117 yards. It’s one of the highest carry totals in a single game for a Central Michigan quarterback in program history, two off tying the record of 33.
It was Flores’ third game of the season with 20-plus carries, as he went for 22 vs. Colgate and 28 in a win over Wyoming. He had three touchdowns on the ground across those two games. He also carried the football 18 times for 154 yards and a score in a win over Akron.
On the season, Flores has 128 carries for 618 yards and four touchdowns in seven games.
